El Dorado Springs is a local hub for health-care and provides quality healthcare services without the inconvenience of out-of-town travel. The area is served by many health specialists including Cardiology, Neurology, Rheumatology, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Podiatry, home health care agencies, respiratory care services, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, along with hospice programs. There are also emergency and rescue services covering all of the tri-county area with ambulances based in El Dorado Springs and Stockton and fire departments in El Dorado Springs and several communities. Below are some of the local medical facilities.
Cedar County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) is proud to be your “hometown” healthcare provider. Serving Cedar County and surrounding commu-nities since 1960, CCMH offers residents much more than traditional inpatient hospital services, with everything from a heated indoor therapy pool to on-site specialty clinic services.
CCMH is Medicare certified as a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). This status allows hospitals to take advantage of cost-based reimbursement for Medicare services, which is particularly beneficial in rural areas with a large number of Medicare recipients.
When an emergency arises, the CCMH emergency room is staffed with on-site physicians 24 hours a day and staff receive on-going training to be ready when you need them.In addition to acute inpatient care, CCMH also offers a Medicare “Swing Bed” Program for patients that require daily skilled nursing services but not the full range of hospital services that are available for acute care patients. Swing Bed care is typically of a rehabilitative nature following an acute care hospitalization and before discharge to home or to a nursing home. This program is ideal for patients who have completed an acute hospitalization in an out-of-town hospital and still need some form of skilled care. Through this program, individuals can be transferred back to CCMH to be closer to home.
CCMH provides specialty clinic services in the areas of Cardiology, Neurology, Rheumatology, General Surgery, Ophthalmology and Podiatry, Wound Care and Outpatient Clinics, rehabilitation services that include physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. A heated indoor aquatic therapy pool is a unique feature of the Rehabilitation Deaprtment.
A new program opened in 2013 called the Senior Life Solutions Program which is an intensive outpatient program dedicated to addressing the emotional and behavioral health of patients 65 and older. The SLS staff includes a Board Certified Psychiatrist, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a registered nurse and a nursing assistant.
Extensive radiology services are available at CCMH. These include, but are not limited to, diagnostic x-ray and fluoroscopy; cat scans; bone density testing; digital mammography; ultrasound; cardiac stress testing; doppler and stress echocardiograms; and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
The Laboratory Department provides inpatient and outpatient laboratory services that include general chemistry, diagnostic immunology, hematology, bacteriology, immunohematology and anatomical pathology.
The Respiratory Therapy Department offers other vital services for cardiovascular system and respiratory conditions and diseases as well as ventilation assistance, chest physiotherapy, oxygen testing, carbon dioxide testing, electrocardiography, sputum sample collection, oxygen therapy, airway management, patient education, and sleep studies.
Other services that CCMH provide are an in-house pharmacy, social services assistance and referral, dietary consultations, outpatient infusions and injections, endoscopic procedures and pain management through epidural injections.
The hospital sponsors the CCMH Auxiliary. This group of volunteers hold multiple fund-raising activities each year to raise funds to purchase equipment for different departments of the hospital. The Auxiliary also operates the hospital gift shop and lends volunteer assistance at CCMH functions.
In addition to the Hospital campus, CCMH also operates the CCMH Medical Mall which houses the Medical Mall Clinic. The Clinic has several physicians on staff for primary care services and also provides Cardiac Rehabilitation services for individuals recovering from a heart attack or heart surgery and those at risk of heart disease. The Clinic offers scheduled appointments and also accommodates walk-in patients.
